WhatsApp had been banned from sharing UK user data with Facebook unless they follow GDPR regulations
UK Information Commissioner Elisabeth Denham published a blog post stating that after ICO investigation WhatsApp had signed commitment not to share personal information with Facebook
WhatsApp which was bought by Facebook in 2014 and was planning to share user data with Facebook. However ICO found that there was no lawful basis for doing so and adequate sharing information was not provided to users.
Information Commissioner’s Office raised concerns and started investigating Facebook plan to use WhatsApp user data which eventually led to WhatsApp signing public commitment not to share the data until this process would be compliant under new GDPR requirements.
